BAYS members off to the Windy City

HOUSTON, Dec. 14, 2010 — The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) has selected four members of the Bay Area Youth Singers (BAYS) to participate in its 2011 Children’s and Youth Honor Choir. This Honor Choir will practice and perform during the 2011 ACDA National Conference in Chicago in March.

Students in fourth through ninth grade from across the United States auditioned for this honor choir. “Bay Area Youth Singers are ecstatic that four of our outstanding members were selected for the ACDA Children’s and Youth Honor Choir,” said Kathy Hamilton, BAYS president. “Taking part in BAYS gives each member such a great opportunity to truly develop her or his voice which can lead to opportunities such as participating in honor choirs and musical productions.”

Founded in 1959, ACDA is a non-profit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching.

Established in 2007, Bay Area Youth Singers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for children in third through ninth grade to improve their singing voice, learn to read music, increase poise and self-discipline, and develop a love and appreciation of singing great choral literature.

Membership still is open for the apprentice choir and potential new members are encouraged to attend a Tuesday rehearsal from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at University Baptist Church. The first rehearsal for 2011 will be Jan. 4. For more information on BAYS, call 832-425-2329, e-mail bayareayouthsingers@hotmail.com, or visit www.bayareayouthsingers.org.
