Ring in the holidays with BAYS

HOUSTON — On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Bay Area Youth Singers will celebrate the holiday season with their 2010 Christmas Concert. More than 30 BAYS members will raise their voices in celebration under the direction of Brenda Varvoutis and Mike Tuneberg.

The holiday production will be enhanced by the sounds of the piano, harp and violin for the selection of Christmas songs that were written over the past five centuries.

The Bay Area Youth Singers Christmas Concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Taylor Lake Christian Church, 1730 Old Kirby Rd. in Seabrook (between Kirby and Red Bluff). Tickets will be $5 per attendee and free child care will be available for children four years old and younger. If you are interested in child care, please call 832-425-2329.

In addition to this performance, Bay Area Youth Singers will be performing this holiday season at the Villa de Matel, the Interfaith Caring Ministries Festival of Trees, with the University Baptist Choir and Orchestra and for Space Center Rotary Club. BAYS also has been invited to perform the National Anthem at the Rockets game on Dec. 27.

Established in 2007, Bay Area Youth Singers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for children in third through ninth grade to develop their singing voice, learn to read music, develop poise and self-discipline, and develop a love and appreciation of singing great choral literature. New members will be accepted to the apprentice choir in January 2011. Potential new members are encouraged to attend a Tuesday rehearsal from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at University Baptist Church.
