Brenda VarvoutisBrenda Varvoutis Renander is the artistic director of the Bay Area Youth Singers. She holds a bachelor of music from the University of Houston and a performance certificate in flute from the International Academie in Nice, France. Her teaching and conducting experience spans 32 years in public and private schools at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. She currently serves as choral director at South Houston High School in Pasadena Independent School District, Director of Music at Lakeside Lutheran Church, is a Teaching Artist with the Humphrey School at Theater Under the Stars, and is a frequent clinician and adjudicator for UIL contests and choral festivals throughout the state. Ms. Varvoutis has served as the choral director BAYS Summer Music Camp for 8 years.


Carol BarwickCarol Barwick — A founder and board member of the Bay Area Youth Singers organization, Ms. Barwick also serves as executive director. She coordinates the business of BAYS, serves as a pianist and vocal coach, and is the number one cheerleader for the group. Her music background includes 30 years teaching choral and general music in public elementary, junior high, and high schools. She has served as a church pianist and music director, accompanist for instrumentalists, singers and choral groups. She has recently retired from 30 years teaching piano in her home studio. Her professional affiliations include the American and Texas Choral Directors Associations, Texas Music Educators Association, and Music Teachers National and Texas Music Teachers Associations. She is also a joint owner with her two sons of B&B Pipe and Industrial Tools.


PaulaPaula Boderek, Children’s Choir Director. Paula Boderek is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Sam Houston State University with degrees in music education and choral conducting. She sang professionally with the highly acclaimed Robert Shaw Singers and was a choir member on their Grammy award-winning recording made in France.

Her 27-year teaching career spans K through 12th grades and includes 14 years teaching first grade. She currently teaches elementary music in Sheldon ISD, serves as an adjunct ESL teacher for the Harris County Department of Education and San Jacinto College North. As she begins her 38th year of teaching, Mrs. Boderek is more excited than ever to guide children to success in their musical experiences. She taught the primary Summer Music Campers this past year and is now leading the Bay Area Children’s Choir.


Nicole DanielNicole Daniel is entering her second year as a BAYS director after relocating from Dallas, TX in 2016. Most recently, she was the Head Choir Director at Renner Middle School in Plano ISD where she was named Teacher of the Year for 2015-2016 and under her leadership the choirs earned Sweepstakes ratings. Prior to that, Mrs. Daniel was the Associate Choir Director at Forest Meadow Junior High in Richardson ISD and ran a successful private voice studio. She was a member of the Dallas Symphony Chorus and performed with Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas. She holds affiliations with the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Choral Directors Association.

Mrs. Daniel received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas Tech University in May 2009, studying under Dr. John Dickson and Kathy McNeil. Currently, Mrs. Daniel is a full-time mom to her three children — Noah (5), Sadie (3), and Ella Marie (1) — and is a member of Clear Creek Community Church in Friendswood.
